Description (Physical description)
Description for 1949.260 [A-D]: 'Various sherds of hand made ware with a smooth finish. Flat topped rims, straight sided vessels which might be Early Iron Age or Saxon date. There is also 1 sherd of RB grey ware and a combed piece of hypercaust. Also part of a single edged bone comb which might be of Romano British or Pagan Saxon date. Also 4 animal bones and a tooth and a pair of iron shears.'

Catalogue card for 1949.230 has the following entry: "The site was excavated from 5th December 1938 to 24th February 1939. Below the oldest ground surface Neolithic B ware was found. Grooved ware occupation occurred at 2 old ground levels separated by a layerof fluviatile sand. Later finds include a Deverel Rimbury urnfield and R.B. ditches and rectangular huts. The two Grooved Ware levels have been labelled Neolithic I and Neolithic II by Mr. Leaf"
