Description

Three Pinnawa Red-on-white sherds.
(I) largest sherd is broadly five-sided; slight tapering and expanding, possibly part of a jar neck; exterior surface is buff white-slipped, with applied red slip in geometric motifs, including triangular and dot motifs; interior surface is painted grey.
(II) broadly rectangular sherd, possibly from same vessel as 'I'; slightly curved cross-section; exterior surface is buff white-slipped, with applied red paint in geometric and dot motifs; interior surface is painted grey.
(III) rimmed sherd, possibly from shouldered bowl; internal bevel rim, slightly inturned; soft carination at neck; exterior surface is white-slipped, with applied red paint in linear and stair-step motifs; interior surface has a buff hue, possibly painted.

Context (Amendments / updates)
When the Kechib:wa collection was packed for storage in c 1986 the pottery was assessed by museum staff and boxed according to type. These sherds were packed with Pinnawa Red-on-white material, which has now been added to the Description field.
