Description

Two Pinnawa Red-on-white sherds. (1) larger sherd is broadly four sided and curved; slightly curved cross-section; exterior surface is burnished and white-slipped; with applied red paint in geometric and stair-step motifs; internal surface has a grey hue, possibly painted. (2) smaller sherd is rimmed, possibly part of a shouldered bowl; five-sided, but broadly rectangular; upright simple rim, slightly inturned; soft carination at neck; surface is buff-slipped, external surface has applied red geometric motifs; some smokey black patches, possibly from differential firing.

When the Kechib:wa collection was packed for storage in c 1986 the pottery was assessed by museum staff and boxed according to type. These sherds were packed with Pinnawa Red-on-white material, which has now been added to the Description field.
