Description
Hemispherical bowl of burnished ware, with red and brown painted decoration on the interior surface over a tan slip; partially reconstructed from shreds with areas of painted plaster infill. Simple upright rim; sides slope gradually to a gently rounded base; base features a seemingly intentional hole at the centre, possibly a 'kill hole'. Interior surface finished with a tan slip and painted with an abstract bird-like figure at the centre, now partly obscured by damage; interior and exterior surfaces heavily blackened in places with burnished appearance.

Cremation 166, the Old Pueblo Cremation Cemetery. The ashes of Cremation 166 were stored inside of Z 1398 A with Z 1398 B used as a lid. Z 1398 C and D were found amongst the ashes. Excavated by Samuel K. Lothrop, Museum of the American Indian, and Louis Clarke, Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology, as part of the Louis C.G.
