Context (Related Documents)
Catalogue card reads: "Dr Plenderleith in a letter to Sidney Smith of the British Museum says, "The glass is built up in a most peculiar way, and I can think of no parallel to it. The construction is as follows and all the coloured glasses are fused together. It is really a three-ply structure with discontinuous top and middle layers. The yellow and the white are opaque and the green and the blue translucent. As regards the traces of foreign matter in the relief, I find plasticine, wax, guttapercha and gold leaf. The bezal lies on a sulpher setting" See catalogue card for illustration.
