Context (Analysis)
On the reverse of original catalogue cards is a drawing and a photograph copied from 'The Magazine of Fine Arts, Vol. I, No. 1' (November, 1905) showing a detail from 'Peruvian Pottery', in which four human figurines are carrying an object of the same shape as this one. It is 'described as a litter, containing a reclining figure,' but according to G.H.S. Bushnell 'this seems doubtful' and that it is 'ascribed, probably wrongly, to Nazca.'

Context (Analysis)
This object was originally described as a 'problematic object'; but it appears to match the features of a 'miniature funerary bundle' as illustrated by The Met (1964) in 'Miniature funerary bundle', https://www.metmuseum.org/art/collection/search/309213.
It also appears to match the features of a 'model funeral cortege' as illustrated by the Krannert Art Museum (1967) in 'Model of Funeral Cortege', https://collection.kam.illinois.edu/objects-1/info/2841; and by Margaret A. Jackson (2008) in 'Krannert Art Museum: Selected Works', https://kam.illinois.edu/collection-highlight/model-funeral-cortege.
