Description
Man's blue velvet poncho, part of a carnival outfit. Decorated all over with gold coloured metal sequins sewn on with thread that is then wrapped in metal coils; floral pattern in gold metal thread embroidery over thick paper card, creating a raised effect; stems made using metal coils and rows of sequins; centres of some of the flowers accented with red or cream velvet; two birds on one side in the same gold embroidery with tails made using sequins and gold coils; on this side there is a silver star in the middle; gold sun motif on the other side with silver at the tips. The entire poncho is edged with a red and white woven strip with fringe; interior lined with white coated cotton.

Description (Physical description)
Predominantly blue velvet poncho (sleeveless). Decorated all over with gold coloured metal discs and floral and bird patterns also created using gold coloured metal discs and gold metal thread embroidery. The centres of the flowers made out of red velvet. In the centre on one side, below the neck opening is a gold, five pointed star. On the reverse are similar designs but without birds and in the centre is a large sun. The entire poncho is edged with red and white fringe.

This outfit has been accessioned twice, once in 1902 and once in 1904. E 1902.378 A-D is listed with less information in the accession register, whereas E 1904.224 names the same outfit, but in greater detail. The decision was taken to assume the 1902 IDNO for all of the objects, although some are marked with the 1904 IDNO and some are marked with both.
