Letter from R.C. Anderson, Southampton, to Curator Louis Clarke, 26 February 1935, re the dispatch of a parcel of Peruvian spear, a cape known as 'kooshmah (or something of that sort) and two hats'.
'All this came from the Perene district in the early [18]90s. My Father-in-law, Mr R.F. Mackenzie, was employed by the Peruvian Corporation and brought them home with him.'

Description (Physical description)
Original description for 1935.352 A-B: 'A is slightly bigger than B. They are made by increasing the amount of beating, so that the pointed end is almost raw bark, and the part closest to the head is fairly thinly beaten. The unfinished version would have been a long cone, which is then pushed within itself periodically and folded to give a stepped impression. Both are complete, however.'

Description (Physical description)
Pointed hat made of barkcloth. Pointed end is almost raw bark; the part closest to the head is very thin; top half is pushed within itself periodically and folded to give a stepped impression. Flattened; bark cloth is coming apart at the edge on one side due to how thin it is.
