Description
Pair of boy's boots, with possibly detachable fur lined leggings or stockings. Long boots with leg of brown dehaired seal skin or leather; sole of dark brown bearded seal skin moulded around the foot and gathered where it joins the upper and leg; decorated around the upper with four layers of folded cream, dehaired skin, and at the front of the leg with four strips of cream skin; strip of seal skin with hair around top of boot; stockings of seal skin with fur inside; sewn with sinew.

Catalogue card for 1931.1162 A-D: 'Complete outfit of clothing of a boy. Consisting of A: upper garment, worn with hair next to skin. B: breeches, with fur worn outside. C & D: long boots, with separate inner ones. The entire outfit including boots except the soles of boots are made from fjord sealskin; the soles of bearded sealskin. The sinews are from the two bigger varieties of seals. The white fur is of fox. The ornamental white leather is blackened by continually freezing and thawing of fjord seal.'

Judy Hall: 'C-D: Boots and stockings, one pair. Boots extend to knee with front higher than back. Each is made from dehaired sealskin in two piece construction. A single piece of dark brown sealskin (bearded - see original catalogue card) forms the sole which is turned over the sides and crimped around the heel and above the toes. 4 ridges of cream dehaired sealskin are inserted into the seam between the sole and upper foot; a narrow strip of dehaired dark brown sealskin is inserted through the centre. Upper foot is made from two triangular pieces of dehaired sealskin (fjord - see original catalogue card) on C and one piece on D. Leg section is made from a single piece of same on D and two pieces on C with overlapping vertical seam down front of leg overlaid with 4 narrow parallel strips of cream dehaired seal skin. Band of haired sealskin is sewn around upper edge. Stockings are made from sealskin with the fur to the interior. Band of haired sealskin is sewn around upper edge which extends above the boot. Structural sewing is with sinew.'
