Description

Harpoon head made of walrus tusk ivory. Narrow, squared tip with blade slot, one face broken off and missing; single transverse line hole with three incised dots arranged in a triangle on ventral face at centre; closed, rectangular socket with double symmetrical spurs, face of socket broken off and missing. Mathiassen Type VI.

1950.400 A-W: 'Parts of twenty three walrus ivory and caribou horn large harpoon heads, Type VI, line holes cut parallel to the blade, forked end with narrow rectilinear socket to hold the foreshaft and the points grooved to hold a stone tip. [...] W: walrus ivory. Tip and socket broken. Three dots engraved above line hole. (Excavation No. 1496).'
