Description
Small harpoon head made from bone or caribou antler. Unevenly shaped tip with an end-blade slot. Tapering form with two sub-rectangular line holes midway down length, perpendicular to blade slot. Deeply notched base forming two symmetrical pointed spurs containing a closed socket. The surface of one spur is now broken off and missing on one side. Rough texture on one face. Mathiassen Type 5.

Description for 1950.397 A-U: 'Mathiassen Type 5. Twenty-one horn and ivory harpoon heads, perforated with two holes for the line at right angles to the blade. Swallow-tail end with narrow rectilinear socket for fixing to foreshaft and socket at the point to take a stone blade. [...] O: small harpoon head, one tail broken. (Excavation No. 1195) [...].'
