Context (Analysis)
330 handaxes excavated from the Palaeolithic site of Fordwich in the 1920's were originally stored at the Herne Seaside Museum until a flood in 1953 which washed the handaxes of their labels. 180 were moved to the British Museum, while 13-14 were reportedly at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in 1967 for study by D. A. Roe, though could not be located in 1980 when a report was written by A. M. Ashmore. Alastair Key believes that this object could possibly be one of the Fordwich handaxes, though further investigation is required.
