Description

Miniature vase. Upright direct rim with rounded lip; elongated, slightly rounded body, tapering towards the splayed annular base. Two opposing vertical lugs in the shape of semiovals and decorated with short horizontal incisions attach on the upper body. Band of incised decoration beneath rim incorporating punctations bordered by a horizontal line and a scalloped edge. Additional punctations and intersecting horizontal and vertical lines form design on two sides of the vessel. Red fabric with inclusions. Some brown surface accretions. Damage to rim and chips out of base.

The Moyne collection arrived at MAA in 1938, after being displayed in London from 19 May to 1 June. Richard Feachem organised and partially accessioned the collection in 1946; the remainder was registered in 1981 and 1995. See archive (FA2/3/6, Doc.68, Doc.467 and Doc.470).
