Context (Acquisition Details)
The Moyne collection arrived at MAA in 1938, after being displayed in London from 19 May to 1 June. Richard Feachem organised and partially accessioned the collection in 1946; the remainder was registered in 1981 and 1995. See archive (FA2/3/6, Doc.68, Doc.467 and Doc.470).

Original description for Z 35297 A-AM: 'Lugs of various forms, whole-body of human/lizard type with pronounced hole at bottom in most cases. a-g have pointed faces, two applied eye-holes each side. h-o have one or two eye holes either side, filleted decoration at sides of body. p-af are simpler versions of type. ag-ai are versions with more holes and protruberances. aj possibly represents different animal: has vertical mouth. ak is very stylized, small, with form represented only by punctate dots. al and am are small, very simply modelled versions'.

Description (Physical description)
Vertical, elongated, zoomorphic adorno sherd representing the full body of an animal. Triangular head with ridge on either edge on the top; one deep punctation on either side with a slightly raised rim representing eyes; six other deep punctations on each side of the head; protruding rounded, lobe on both sides directly underneath the head, possibly a part of the head or meant to represent limbs; two punctations on each side of the body towards the base; one punctation just before the base in the centre; curved up at the base with deep punctation through the bottom. Hollow interior; retains some of the vessel wall.

Dried earth came out of the hollow interior of the object during processing. This has been bagged and is stored with the object.
