Description

Pair of black woollen boots, part of Xhubleta outfit. Calf length, constructed of woollen socks decorated on the upper with flowers, birds and crosses; and on the sole with lines using red, pink, yellow, green, blue and burgundy wool. The legs are reinforced with striped velvet, and decorated with black beads and black thread in floral patterns, with blue, green and blue bead embellishments. Fastened using five metal hook and eyes up on the inside leg, with plaited string at the top.

Description for 2021.4.1-7: 'Xhubleta. A full traditional woman's costume, presented to singer Rita Ora in 2013. Consists of an black/brown woollen overtunic with flared projecting skirt, woollen belt, sleeveless woollen top, black cotton underskirt, white cotton undershirt and a pair of beaded woollen boots, decorated with pink, blue, orange, yellow green embroidery on the feet.'

'Xhubleta is a handcrafted garment worn by highland women and girls in Northern Albania, characterised by its undulating bell form. Predominantly black with colourful embroidered motifs, the crafting process entails preparing the shajak (woven felt), cutting, sewing and embroidering symbolic figures.'
