Description

Detachable chest panel, part of Xhubleta outfit. Black velvet with vertical lines; with a strip of blue velvet with jacquard foliate pattern and a black strip of wool at the bottom. It has shoulder straps and a deep, round neck with black velvet hem. The neckline, outer sides and three horizontal bands across the body are decorated with multicoloured glass beads, with four clusters embroidered below the neck, of green, blue, red, white and yellow. Twisted wool cords of purple and orange project off both sides of the base to secure it; it attaches to the apron of 2021.4.1 using metal hooks at each shoulder.

Description for 2021.4.1-7: 'Xhubleta. A full traditional woman's costume, presented to singer Rita Ora in 2013. Consists of an black/brown woollen overtunic with flared projecting skirt, woollen belt, sleeveless woollen top, black cotton underskirt, white cotton undershirt and a pair of beaded woollen boots, decorated with pink, blue, orange, yellow green embroidery on the feet.'

'Xhubleta is a handcrafted garment worn by highland women and girls in Northern Albania, characterised by its undulating bell form. Predominantly black with colourful embroidered motifs, the crafting process entails preparing the shajak (woven felt), cutting, sewing and embroidering symbolic figures.'

Black sleeveless chest apron-e, worn as part of a Xhubleta, a traditional Albanian woman's costume. Small rectangular cotton apron covered with black velvet and decorated on neck line, three horizontal bands and and 4 motifs. with red orange, yellow, light blue and black beads. Overlaid at the base is a strip of blue velvet with ?jacquard curvilinear patterns. Secured at base with two 2-ply twisted orange and grey woollen cords
