Accession No

1924.335 F

Description

Anthropomorphic or anthropozoomorphic foot sherd; likely from a tripod vessel, perhaps a tripod bowl. Hollow, with a circular perforation in its back. It likely formerly contained a clay ball, which formed a rattle. It seems modelled to represent a human or humanoid head, with prominent brows and cheek bones and possibly an animal- or monkey-like open mouth (formed by perforations), perhaps with teeth bared. Red fabric with shimmering inclusions. Remnants of white or cream slip. Perhaps Nicoya polychrome ware.
