Context (Analysis)
Found in drawer with West Indies implements. Possibly belong with the stone axes from Ghana donated by A.R. Bailey through the British Museum: 1920.964 - 1920.976.
[Also it is to be noted that at the same time the same person also donated West Indian material. See also: Z 2553 A. -- Mary Hill Harris]

Description (Physical description)
Accession Register for Z 2553 A-D: 'Four stone axes.'

Context (Analysis)
There is an unsigned and undated note in the records for Z 2553 B-D noting that, although A-D were found 'in a drawer with West Indian implements' they might 'possibly belong with the stone axes from Ghana donated by A.R. Brailey'; Mary Hill Harris then pointed out that Brailey also donated West Indian material. It is not clear why it was thought that Z 2553 B-D was related to Brailey, particularly because his Caribbean collection (see 1920.920-948) does not have any identifying marks or labels (it is currently not known whether his Ghanaian material does). It seems to be on the strength of this note, however, that Z 2553 B-D became tentatively associated with Brailey and with Ghana; indeed at least Z 2553 B and C are boxed with Ghanaian material, and D may be so as well. However, the original documentation (that is, the Accession Register) only note that they were all found in a drawer with West Indian material, so the association with Ghana for Z 2553 B-D seems tenuous.
