Context (Analysis)
This object was found in a crystal box marked 'Robenhausen Charred Corn' alongside 2003.18.1-12. While 2003.18.1-10 most probably represent 'part of a much larger (and now separated) assemblage of artefacts from Moosseedorfsee and Robenhausen, a gift from Swiss natural scientists Adolf von Morlot and Dr Uhlmann to Sir Charles Lyell in 1864' (Leckie, 2011, pp 152), this object might not have been part of the gift. Also found with 2003.18.1-13 was a note written by Morlot, giving a list of Robenhausen objects that he offered to Lyell. Similarly, in Morlot's letter (addendum to his bone catalogue to Lyell), there is a list of Robenhausen objects that he included in the gift. See records for 2003.18.1-3 for the note and letter. Corn is not mentioned in either document. Furthermore, a label reading 'Charred Corn/ Lake Dwelling/ Robenhausen' was found in the box containing 1951.445 A, yet the Idno 1951.445 does not cover any corn. It is possible that the label once belonged to this object; if so, this object mostly probably was not part of the Morlot/Uhlmann gift, but still came to the MAA from the Sedgwick as part of a larger group of material transferred in 1951. As such, the decision was taken to keep this object under this 2003.18 Idno but remove Morlot, Ulmann, and Lyell from the Source field; only Sedgwick Museum is tentatively kept.
