Description
Plaster seal impression of a seal matrix with a circular face. The central design depicts a knight riding an armoured horse facing right, holding a sword above his head in his right hand and a shield of arms in his left hand. The shield of arms is a shield bendy, with three lions rampant below and three lions rampant above, two and one. The shield is the Arms of Bohun, used by Humphrey de Bohun, fourth Earl of Hereford. The horse's armour is decorated with lions rampant. The central design is separated from the inscription by a beaded line. The inscription reads 'S' H DE BOhVN COMITIS [HEREFORD ET CON]STABVLAR ANGLI' ('THE SEAL OF HUMPHREY DE BOHUN EARL OF HEREFORD AND CONSTABLE OF ENGLAND'). The inscription is fragmentary.
