Context (Analysis)
The medallion is the obverse of a so-called German 'Löser' minted for Johann Friedrich or John Frederick, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg (1625-1679) as the 14 coat of arms along with the crowned initials 'JF' in the centre confirm.
The initials H - B which are framing the number 1677 at the bottom of the medallion are referring to the mint master Heinrich Bonhorst.
For the reverse see 1921.63.107.
