Description

Mortar of copper alloy. Everted, thickened rim; body tapers slightly towards a splayed flat base with two ridged bands. Body is decorated with two opposing embossed oval medallions with wreath bordering griffin standing on a branch, ducally gorged. It has a crest coronet around its neck and a chain rising vertically out of frame, and is holding a key in its beak. A ridged band encircles the body at the top of the medallion.
