Ground and polished biconvex stone axe with angled shoulders. Square sides below the shoulders leading to a curved cutting edge; long tang with flattened sides and butt; flake scars smoothed but visible on one face; brown to green stone. Chips missing from cutting edge.

Catalogue card for 1957.178[.1-7]: 'The collector Brigadier Ross Howman writes; 'In 1927 I commanded the escort of the first expedition to enter that part of the Naga Hills which lies between the PATKAI and SANGPAN BUM mountains. Our object was the suppression of head-hunting, and, as corollary, human sacrifice. I collected these axe heads at that time.'
