Description

Brown salt-glazed stoneware jug with missing handle. Upright rim with two incised vertical lines atop elongated straight neck; base of neck is collared by a single horizontal rib; vertical strap handle attached below rim, horizontally thumbed spear-like extension on lower end rests on jug’s shoulder; pedestal base ribbed with three horizontal bands above rounded edge. Wire marks on underside of base along with incised five-pointed star. Body marred in two small horizontal sections by accretions, likely the remains of kiln furniture.

Context (Amendments / updates)
A detached handle was noted during the 2000s Shorts Project as being part of Z 16632 B. After closer examination as part of the Stores Move project in 2023, it was determined that this handle belonged to a different, unknown vessel and so the decision was taken to assign the detached handle a TEMP number and record.
