Context (Production / use)
This costume is Aztec in style and is of the type worn by such groups as the Corporacion de Concheros, amongst others. Made from plastic, the top layer is cut away to reveal either the first or second layers of coloured plastic. Such a costume would typically be worn with a headdress of coloured ostrich feathers.

A man's Aztec style dance costume, made from black velvet, gold plastic, gold lamée, and black beads threaded on wire.
H-I) Pair of wristlets consisting of a band with circular designs in black appliqued onto gold lamée and surrounded by gold plastic.

Description (Physical description)
Wristlets, part of a man’s Aztec dance costume (1994.39 A-G) made from synthetic black velvet overlaid with gold synthetic textile and gold lame, with beads threaded on wire hanging as decoration. The gold fabric is cut out in decorative designs to reveal the black velvet underneath. Wristlets are rectangular with the centre of the rectangle extending down with a series of domed shapes of different lengths, reminiscent of stylised bird wings. The centre length of the rectangles featuring three circular shapes as decoration. Attached to wrists with velcro.
