Description
Wau Merak. Bird shaped paper kite. Seven pieces of cane attached to each other with white thread form the structure. The base of the structure is covered in white paper and covered with blue, green, red and yellow paper decoration. At the base of the tail are two tassels made of red shredded paper. Attached to each wing is a white square piece of paper covered with green fringe.

It is possible that this kite is part of the Skeat collection. In the annual report, the Skeat collection (Z 33508, Skeat I: 640-654) lists 15 kites from South East Asia, however there are only 10 record on the database. This kite needs to be compared to those in the Skeat collection to determine their provenance.
