Description (Labels & Markings)
Label reads: 'Made in Angoweland East Africa, by an old chief for Eddie Atkinson, when shooting up there. These are very roughly made. As a rule they are bound with copper wire or silver thread. They are very lucky. Given to me by Kay Samuels 20 June 1906.'

Context (Other owners)
The catalogue card for 1927.398 states that the object was given to William Ridgeway by 'Kay Samuels' on 20 June 1906. However, Ridgeway's 1908 publication (in which this object is illustrated) states that this bracelet and another were given to him by his niece, Mrs Montgomery Miller. Ridgeway's niece, Koy Florine Samuels, married Hugh Montgomery Miller in 1907.

Context (Amendments / updates)
Ridgeway's label and his article 'The Origin of the Turkish Crescent' give the place of origin of the two bracelets as 'Angoweland'. It is assumed that this is 'Angoniland', but Ridgeway's 'Angoweland' has been retained in the Place field to facilitate searching.
