Description

A wooden milk bottle (.1) with a basketry cover (.2). The bottle has a flat base, straight sides, a rounded shoulder, and an everted rim at the top of the neck. A black groove encircles the shoulder, and there is another around the rim. There is a crack down one side of the bottle, from the shoulder to the middle of the base. The cover is made from coiled basketry, light brown in colour with black horizontal stripes, and is almost conical but has a flattened top.

Description (Physical description)
Catalogue card for 1948.2298 A-C: 'Three wooden milk containers, bottle shaped, narrow neck, everted lip, straight sides and flat bottom. An incised and blackened line encirled shoulder. Rim also blackened. They have tumbler shaped coiled basketwork covers, which in the case of B is almost conical, otherwise the bottom is flattened.
A[.1-2: Largest container, plain cover.
B[.1-2]: Second largest, almost conical cover with 4 bands of black foundation encircling it, with natural wrapping.
C:[.1-2]: Smallest container, narrow cover, black rim, wide black band in centre, and black top. The black produced by black overlaid foundation and black wrapping. On the central band a pattern of triangles picked out in white wrapping. These are small ones, they are made in every size.'
