Description

An iron dog bell, roughly spherical but with a rounded point at each side. There is a slit that runs around almost the entire circumference of the bell chamber. There are two holes in the connecting section, through which a piece of twisted plant fibre cord is threaded. Inside the bell is a spherical iron pellet that creates the sound.

Catalogue card description for 1948.2370 A-B: 'Two iron dog bells. A: Ordinary small cow bell shape made of one piece of iron, but the two sides fastened together by small bolts. B: Like a partly open cockle shell in shape, though each side rather more pointed. Two holes in the "hinge" at the back from which the bell is suspended by a cord. The clapper consists of a loose round iron ball inside.'
