Description

Wooden spoon. Shallow narrow oval bowl, painted black around the rim. Decorated on the reverse of the bowl with black patterns. Long handle, cylindrical in the middle, flattens out near the bowl and end of the handle. Protruding from the end of the handle is a two pronged design, broken.

Catalogue card description for 1948.2333 A-C reads:
'Three wooden spoons.
A: Long cylindrical handle which flattens out into an oblong. This is grooved horizontally, with a few dots between ?some grooves. Dark, smooth, wood. Possibly from Matabele.
B: Highly ornamented wooden spoon, with shallow pear-shaped bowl. The underside of the handle has two rests which hold it off the ground. Carved and poker-work ornamentation on the handle. 1925 cut in side. Probably for the Uganda Jubilee in that year.
C: Small spoon, thin, shallow curved bowl, slightly waisted handle with carved end. Carved and burnt strip of pattern on the back of the bowl. Provenance unknown.'
