Description

Highly ornate wooden spoon. Shallow oval bowl with a black rim. The underside of the handle has two rests which hold it off the ground. Carved and poker-work ornamentation on the handle. 1925 cut in side. Probably for the Uganda Jubilee in that year.

Catalogue card description for 1948.2333 A-C reads:
'Three wooden spoons.
A: Long cylindrical handle which flattens out into an oblong. This is grooved horizontally, with a few dots between ?some grooves. Dark, smooth, wood. Possibly from Matabele.
B: Highly ornamented wooden spoon, with shallow pear-shaped bowl. The underside of the handle has two rests which hold it off the ground. Carved and poker-work ornamentation on the handle. 1925 cut in side. Probably for the Uganda Jubilee in that year.
C: Small spoon, thin, shallow curved bowl, slightly waisted handle with carved end. Carved and burnt strip of pattern on the back of the bowl. Provenance unknown.'
