Description

Wooden neck ornament with copper decoration. Crescent-shaped piece of wood with D-shaped cross-section; decorated on the front with rectangular pieces of plate copper attached with rivets and edges driven into the wood; rear of crescent is ridged; holes drilled into the narrow ends. One end of the crescent broken and missing; one copper rectangle missing.

A hole at end point for cord for suspension. B is smaller, imperfect and has a ridged back. These worn by the wealthy Mtutsi'

Context (Analysis)
Form is very similar to 1948.2387 A which has a length of plant fibre cord tied between the drilled holes. The holes drilled into this neck ornament likely originally served the same purpose.
