Description for 1948.2355 A-B: 'Two pottery pipes made by the Batwa pygmies of the Ituri Forest for the Bahtutsi and Bahtutsi of Ruanda.
A: For the Bahtutsi. Black pottery, very smooth and polished. A long V shape, the bowl forming one side of the V, the beginning of the stem, the other side. The bowl straight, and flaring out, circular at top. The edge of the bowl slightly bevelled and a light groove running round the top of the stem. Very elegant.
B: For the Bahutu. Similar to A, but of brownish pottery covered with a black slip. Much shorter and more squat. A wooden pipe stem fixed into the pottery one. Tapering towards the mouthpiece.'

Description (Physical description)
Tobacco pipe. Bowl of dark brown pottery coated in black slip. Cylindrical pottery stem with sharp elbow and flaring bowl. A shallow groove runs around the top of the stem and the join between bowl and pottery stem. Wooden stem tapers evenly with a cylindrical socket inserted into the pottery bowl.
