Accession No
1984.26 B
Description
Sígu góro. Two men's caps made of white cotton with red embroidery. Simple pointed shape with ear flaps. Made and embroidered to be worn by performers in a special generational ceremony, held once every 60 years, which is concerned with the renewal of the whole society, and in which all circumcised boys and men take part. Everyday caps look the same as these but are not embroidered. They are often dyed a yellowish-brown colour (see 1984.27). Since the ceremony was not taking place while the collector was there, these were made for him as examples.
