Description

Carved wooden figure. The chest, face scarification and domed apex of the head are coated in purple pigment. The head, part of the chest, hands, genitalia and thighs are coated in white pigment. The figure is perforated in five places; two contain plant fibre and one holds a wooden dowel in the navel area. Described on catalogue card as a possible toy for children.

Catalogue card for Z 28268 A-B: '2 wooden figures carved out of light wood and painted. Both have a white stripe running down the stomach; the body of A is painted green, that of B purple. Both have 3 incised stripes on each cheek, and both wear oval caps. They have holes with sticks through them running thro' the belly button and out the other side. Both have holes through the rectum and A has a piece of stick thro' the hole. Children's toys?...'
