Description
Table knife TEMP.01873.1 has a steel scimitar-shaped blade with a rounded tip; the handle is of pink-orange agate which has a silver ferrule embossed with two reeded borders and a straight edge The butt is decorated with a silver rosette which holds the handle stone in place. The table fork TEMP.01873.2 has two long steel tines on a baluster stem; the handle is of dark-brown and orange agate which has a silver ferrule embossed with two reeded borders and with an invected edge. Ferrule of fork shows crack. The butt is decorated with a circular silver plate which holds the handle stone in place.

Object mounted on plain paper-wrapped display board, mounted with metal pins. This form of mounting possibly indicates the item was on display in Peterhouse before the museum moved to its current site on Downing Street. Hand-written label on display board reading in black ink: 'Knife & FORK NOT SAME SET. HANDLES of AGATE.'
