Context (Analysis)
Santon Hoard. Originally thought to have been found at Santon Downham, Suffolk but research by Rainbird Clarke quoted by Spratling shows it was found in the parish of Santon, on breckland close to the Thetford boundary, between the east end of the former Half-Moon Plantation and the site of St Helen' s Oratory (TL52 837873).

In September 2012, Mary Davis undertook pXRF analysis of the Santon Hoard. The results are included in her PhD thesis, 'Technology at the Transition' (2014), in Chapter 8 and Appendices 2d, 6a & 6b. Context (Found together / assemblage)
Two fragments of copper alloy were found with 1897.227.38.1-14 in 2017-18. These appear to be from a different object and have therefore now been assigned a temp number, TEMP.01815.
