A hand written note seen with the object reads '2480 Perhapse the broken end of a very fine Palaeolithic implement, but the perfect state of the patination of the square end seems to indicate that that this specimen may very very probably be a complete implement. From a pit in St. Stephen's Parish Canterbury - Feby. 21. 1911. A.J. Goldsmith' on one side and 'T.O' on the other side.
