Wood carving of a bird with a long beak and neck, and a round body. The object is painted with circular patterns on the body in red and black; otherwise it is coloured the pale brown of the wood. There is a loop of plant fibre tied through a loop where the bird's feet would be.

Poignant donation description notes: 'Large carved wooden bird from the Sepik River, Papua New Guinea
Purchased 1969 (part of a communal house ornament) Bark Painting from the Sepik River Papua New Guinea. (a panel of a COMMUNAL house).
Bought from the market in Port Moresby PNG in 1969. It was made for a model meeting house, in anticipation of celebrations of New Guinea Independence.'
