Context (Amendments / updates)
Three objects (TEMP.01734.1-3) were found stored inside the quiver Z 19810. The accession register and catalogue card description for Z 19810 reads: 'Long leather quiver with 14 flighted arrows.'. There is no mention of three wooden sticks or fire drills associated with Z 19810 and it is believed that the object was mistakenly stored inside the quiver and later incorrectly marked with Z 19810. These three objects have been assigned a temporary number: TEMP.01734.1-3. There are accessioned fire sticks missing from Kenya, it is possible that TEMP.01734.1-3 could be linked to E 1908.14.6-7 or possibly with the Granville St John Orde Browne collection. The Browne collection describes E 1912.7.19-21 as: 'Three quivers: two of leather (1 filled with arrows, the other carrying firesticks + hearth [E 1912.7.20]) and the other one of bamboo, all from East Embu'. It is possible that TEMP.01734.1-3 may be part of the 'firesticks' (plural) described as part of E 1912.7.20. Further analysis is needed.
