Description
Flintlock smoothbore pistol, presumably British-made. Wooden, with a brass trigger-guard decorated with a crescent and stars. Frizzen and jaw screw in place, decorated with chevrons, stars and botanical design. Rounded butt decorated with short grooves and with a disc projection, both made of brass coloured metal and decorated with grooves and stars. Flint is not present.

1931.139 B was amongst a number of assorted African objects returned to CUMAA from a long-term loan from St Neots Longsands Academy in the 1970s. Some of the documentation has been derived from the Annual Reports, however, some of the items have been impossible to trace and were given a new number in 1997.

Flintlock smoothbore pistol, presumably a British-made (judging from the barrel length). Trade item dated c. early 19th century till the turn of 1800 at construction. Decorated with stars and moons, indicating an Arabic-style motif. Swan-neck cock, brass furniture, butt cap with languet at sides. Fully stocked (wood to end of barrel). Very thin ramrod. Cracked stock. Local addition of brass wire at the barrel end.
Barrel blocked with accretions.
Overall L: 17.5 in (445mm).
Barrel L: 12 in (305mm).
