Context (Other)
The rear of the label attached to the mouthpiece (1961.5.4) and the envelope containing the tobacco sample (1961.5.5) indicate a previous interaction with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. Hugh Scott is known to have donated botanical samples to Kew, being mentioned as a donor in 'Review of the Work of the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, during 1953. Kew Bulletin, 1954, Vol. 9, No. 1 (1954), pp. 1-26'. The water tobacco pipe and sample 1961.5.1-5 may have been initially offered to Kew, but not accessioned by them, before being sent on to the Museum of Anthropology and Archaeology. Kew Gardens has therefore been removed from the Source field.
