Description
Copper alloy processional cross. Consists of an openwork head attached to a long handle. The handle features interweaving curved lines, and terminates in an small openwork cross. Both head and handle feature designs cut in using an ajouré technique. Carried by priests of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church.

Catalogue card for 1941.100 A-B:
'A: Bronze or copper "crosshead" with tenon at base to fit into handle - actually a lozenge-shaped plate, carved ajouré with interlacing, terminating in bird-heads, with a Maltese cross forming the central element of the pattern.
B: Smaller bronze or copper "cross", complete in itself (i.e. no place for handle), consisting of a larger and a smaller lozenge-shaped plate joined by a straight shaft, all flat and carved ajouré with interlacing, etc.'
