Context (Production / use)
Note by Blackman, transcribed by Anatole von Hügel in 1916 Accession register: 'Fertility charms. Modern, glazed-ware institution of ancien Egyptian symbolic figures. These are brought by the men to the villages & the women placing them on the floor hump over them in the hopes of promoting fertility. I was told that the women run out in flocks to meet the men, so anxious are they to have children. Upper Children [von Hügel probably meant 'Upper Egypt'!] Note by donor (W. S. B.)'
