Catalogue card reads for 1983.1: 'Sebastian Heath reports that this type of mask is normally discarded after a single use. New masks are made freshly each year for the Spring Carnival. They are used 'for frightening away old spirits from the previous year, allowing for a new beginning''.

Description (Physical description)
The horns are detachable. One horn is damaged at the tip and both have cracks in the plaster and pigments. There are cracks all over the mask, and the mask's yellow 'wings' and the '?flower elements of the crown' at the top are particularly fragile. There are sequins missing and one ?'eyebrow'/ ridge with red sequins has become detached but still present.
