Context (Production / use)
Used in the home or in the church, appropriate for general prayers. The coloured candles are the smallest size (5 mm x 200 mm), appropriate for general prayers, when from 4 to 13 would be used either in the home or in the church. On more ceremonial occasions, the larger candles (white - 15 mm x ?300 mm) are more appropriate. (The largest made is probably 500 mm x 20 mm.) In Tenejapa, white candles are always used except on rare occasions by the Tatik Martin who use orange candles. In nearby Chamula (Tzotil speaking) candles are made in a variety of colours.
