Description

36 cut out cards from a card matching game (same as 1991.167.A-F). Cards feature various illustrations, including a snake, a lion, an owl, a rooster, a frog, death as the reaper, a clown, a cupid, a devil, a mermaid, a moon, a sun, stars: a crown, and a barrel painted in the colours of the Mexican flag. Played in graveyards by children while their families hold vigil during Day of the Dead.

Context (Production / use)
This games is typical of those sold especially at the time of the Fiesta de los Muertos, usually outside the cemetery, but, on occasion, sold by vendors inside the cemetery. The games are played by children to amuse themselves while the family is holding vigil by the grave [Note from Kristin Norget].

Description for 1991.167 A-G: 'A game involving matching images. A-F) 6 rectangular pieces of card each with 9 images of animals: a snake, lion, owl, cock, frog; characters: death as the reaper, a clown, cupid, a devil, a mermaid; the moon, sun, and stars: and object: crown, barrel, etc. Some of the images are repeated on more than one card, although the arrangement on each card is different. G) 36 small rectangular pieces which reproduce all of the images shown on the 6 boards, some images are repeated. Played by children in the graveyards while the family is holding vigil.'
