Description (Physical description)
Undecorated sherd from the base of a vessel; flat base.

Context (Found together / assemblage)
This sherd was found with Z 16065 during the Stores Move project. Whilst three sherds were labelled with Z 16065, this sherd was unlabelled. Also present with Z 16065 was a sherd belonging to another accession, 1933.821, from Little Wilbraham. Due to the resulting uncertainty as to whether this sherd was part of Z 16065, 1933.821 or another accession, it was decided that it should be given a TEMP number in the hope that it will be reunited with the correct vessel in the future.

Context (Analysis)
It is possible that TEMP.01212-01216 and/or TEMP.01274-01278 may be the sherds from Little Wilbraham referred to in two letters (17 April 1998 and 9 July 1998), addressed to Robin Boast and Chris Chippendale respectively, from Karen Excell, Collections Management, Institute of Archaeology, University College London (UCL). In these two letters, she refers 'a small amount of Saxon pottery sherds from Little Wilbraham at the Institute of Archaeology which we no longer require for teaching and research. Unfortunately I have no documentation associated with this material'; from the second letter it is clear she has sent the material to MAA, along with a transfer form. As this material does not appear to have been entered into the Accession Register, it is possible that it is these unnumbered sherds but more work will need to be done to confirm this. In the meantime, UCL has been tentatively added to the Source field.
