Description

Cros Bhríde. St Brigid’s cross. A straw cross formed of two long wooden sticks, bound into a cross shape with black thread, and four short wooden sticks attached at four points to make four small crosses. The central cross and the four outer crosses are all woven with straw into a square shape.

Context (Acquisition Details)
Previously recorded as collected by Haddon and donated by Thompson. Reverend David Thompson was the Rector of Glencolmcille, Donnegal, where these Brigid's Crosses were collected. It is likely therefore that he was the collector, and the items subsequently entered the Haddon Collection in 1902.
