Context (References)
These objects reached the Museum together with object from Lucy Evelyn Cheesman. In a letter from Cheesman to Clarke dated 28 viii 1936 [cf MAA correspondence Archive, 1936], Cheesman enclosed a list of her own objects as well as a list of objects from F. Stuber, both presented to the MAA. Stuber was assistant to the Assistant Resident of Hollandia in Netherlands New Guinea, as can be seen on top of the mentioned list. Cheesman writes in her book "The land of the red bird" (n.d. (1938), London: Herbert Joseph Limited) about her trip to Mt. Nomo together with "Herr Studer". Context (Amendments / updates)
There is a misspelling on the catalog card as well as on the digital record. The collector's name is not "Struber", but F. "Stuber". He was assistant to the Assistant Resident of Hollandia in Netherlands New Guinea, as can be seen on top of a list of objects he presented to the MAA. The list is preserved in the correspondence Archive 1936 and part of a letter from Lucy Evelyne Cheesman to Clarke. Furthermore, Cheesman writes in her book "The land of the red bird" (n.d. (1938), London: Herbert Joseph Limited) about her trip to Mt. Nomo together with "Herr Studer". I therefore changed the entry in the field "source" from Struber to Stuber. Context (Amendments / updates)
Amended field "place" as well as "Cultural Group". According to the objects lists (cf MAA correspondence Archive 1936, letter Cheesman to Clarke dated 28 viii 1936) as well as the label attached to another object (1937.317) in the same collection, written in Cheesman's hand give as Cultural Group Savia (not Saira, as was mistakenly noted in "place" earlier). Furthermore changed "120 m" to "120 miles". [Katharina Haslwanter, Pacific Presences project]
